2018 has already proved to be a big year for old-but-new Nikes. So far we’ve witnessed the return of noteworthy “in the vault” sneakers ranging from the hiking-inspired Air Humara to the retro-favorite Air Max 93. When Nike brought back the beloved Air Max model in its original “Dusty Cactus” colorway last month, it left fans wanting more nostalgia-tinged drops that look just as good (better even) today than they did decades ago. So the question remained: was the original colorway release just a one-off or an indication of what’s to come? The Swoosh finally has an answer, in bold neon orange and electric blue.

Set to hit retailers in April, this Air Max 93 starts with a plain white upper as the base that’s attached to a can’t-miss safety orange panel around the midsole and finished off with a cool blue Swoosh and a deeper blue Nike Air ankle plate. (If you’re a Mets fan and a sneakerhead, you should probably get a tissue for that drool.) Those wilder moments are balanced by a contrast dark rubber outsole and jet black sock-like ankle and tongue piece. The silhouette may have first dropped way back in 1993, but if it looks familiar, that’s because the 93 was the inspiration for one of the latest additions to the Air Max family: the retrofuturistic 270. That a sneaker was deemed ahead-of-the-curve so long ago and still looks timely (if not still futuristic) today, only speaks to the power of the Air Max ’93 design. It’s also the perfect sneaker right now to anchor any cropped workwear trouser or slouchy dress pant that’s recently made its way into your closet.
